A lasagna that is sweet instead of savory. This dessert lasagna is full of berry flavors and is perfect for a festive occasion!
What is a dessert lasagna?
A dessert lasagna is a fun and sweet twist on the traditional lasagna. Think sweet dessert layers instead of those savory pasta layers! This dessert lasagna is red, white, and blue themed. The flavors correspond to the colors of the layers. The crust is usually made from cookie crumbs and butter. Sweet and easy!
Red, White, Blue and Berry Good.
There are many different layer combos you can go with when it comes to a dessert lasagna. With 4th of July and Labor Day, I decided to go with red, white, and blue colors. This meant for a berry flavored lasagna!
The white layer is cool whip and cream cheese. The red layer is strawberry. The blue layer is raspberry flavored. Other options for these layers include different chocolate layers.
A Golden Oreo Crust
Since I was working with sweet berry flavors, I decided to go with a Golden Oreo crust. Depending on the flavors of the layers, you could go with regular Oreos or even graham crackers. Crush up your choice of cookies and blend with butter. This creates almost a paste for pushing the crust into the 9×13 baking dish.
What about those layers?
The layers are simple in this dessert lasagna. We have gone over the crust layer and how it is made. What about the other layers? The flavored layers consist of 1- 3.0oz box of Jello and 1 tub of Cool Whip. The white layer is 1 tub of Cool Whip, 1 cup of sugar, and 1- 8oz block of cream cheese. The topping is half of the white layer. The key to this dessert lasagna is to chill each layer and allow them to set before adding the next. If you skip this step, the layers will all run together. Not much of a lasagna.
Another note about this lasagna. Using 2 different flavors gives way to an abundance of dessert lasagna for each layer. To ensure that it all fits into the 9×13″ baking dish, make sure to only add about 1/2-3/4 of each layer to the lasagna.
Is there any baking required?
No baking required for this lasagna. The refrigerator will be your best friend throughout each step. Even the crust requires just chilling! This makes for a great recipe to involve little hands.
Berry Dessert Lasagna
A dessert lasagna is a fun and sweet twist on the traditional lasagna. Think sweet dessert layers instead of those savory pasta layers!
Ingredients
- 3- 8oz tubs of Cool Whip
- 1- 3oz Strawberry Jello
- 1- 3oz Raspberry Jello
- 1- 8oz Cream Cheese
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 package of Golden Oreo Cookies
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- red, white, blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Spray a 9x13" baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside
- Add the Golden Oreos to a food processor. Once the Oreos are crushed up, add the melted butter and pulse a few more times until it becomes more like a paste.l
- Press the cookie butter mixture into the baking dish. Set aside.
- Start preparing the layers.
- To a mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and sugar and beat until creamy. Then fold 1 of the Cool Whip tubs in.
- Add 1/2 of the white layer on top of the Oreo crust, then place in the fridge to chill. Setting the rest of the white layer aside.
- Time to make the flavored layers. One at a time, starting with the strawberry jello.
- To a mixing bowl, add the package of strawberry jello and 2/3 boiling water. Mix until dissolved, then add 1 cup of ice water until the ice dissolves.
- Next, mix in 1 tub of Cool Whip. Place in fridge to chill until the white layer sets.
- Do the same thing with the raspberry jello.
- Once the layer before sets, you can add the next. It will give way to the crust, white layer, red layer, and then blue layer. *You will not use all of each layer! I would only use 1/2-3/4 of the jello mixture to the layers*
- Lastily, top with the remaining white layer and sprinkles. Chill for at least 4 hours to allow the lasagna to completely set.
- Keep leftovers in fridge!
