When it comes to traveling, I am one who has a tendency to over pack. This is even true when it comes to sanitizing and cleaning. Wet Wipes and baby wipes normally stay stocked in my consoles. Now is the time to be even more prepared when it comes to keeping clean and sanitizing when on the go. Those regular Wet Wipes will not do the job against COVID-19. Here is how I am keeping things clean against COVID-19 while we are on the road with a sanitizing traveling kit.
Traveling Sanitizing Kit: grab that durable storage container.
The first thing you will need to create your traveling sanitizing kit is a durable storage container. I grabbed a basic Sterilite 6-quart storage box. You can even use a large bento box if you are all about that organization. No matter which route you go with, make sure it is one that can close and can be tossed into the back of the car.
First important item: hand sanitizer.
Obviously hand sanitizer is a must for this sanitizing kit. While on the go, the only best option until you can wash your hands with soap and water is hand sanitizer. Did you know that not just any hand sanitizer will work? I normally use Wet Wipes when it comes to sanitizing, but Wet Wipes do not contain the necessary amount of alcohol to fight against COVID-19. According to the CDC, your hand sanitizer should contain at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol.
This means some of my hand sanitizing wipes containing only benzalkonium chloride are not good enough when it comes to destroying some viruses and bacteria, including COVID-19. Washing hands with soap and water is the number one way to keep hands clean, but this may not be possible when you are on the road.
Kleenex and wipes.
You may be wondering what the Kleenex and wipes are for. I am for creating extra friction on your hands when it comes to cleaning them, like when you are rubbing them together under running water after applying soap. When we are unable to wash our hands with running water and soap, I opt for having my kids use wipes to clean off their hands first. Then they apply the hand sanitizer. If necessary, you can always wipe your hands off with the Kleenex after using the wipes. Just an extra precautionary when you are on the go with kids.
Decorate it and label it.
Who doesn’t love a good labeled container? I am here for all the labeling. It not only helps everyone know what is inside, but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Yep, Type A personality over here. I used colored Sharpies to label the container lid. You can use vinyl labels or stickers as well!
