Plastic Swap

Making the Swap from Single-Use Plastics

September 20, 2019 · In: Momlife, Lifestyle

This post is sponsored by Brita but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Have you been contemplating making the swap from single-use plastics, but just didn’t know where to start? I was there not too long ago. I knew I was over the amount of trash my family was creating with all the disposable plastic straws and plastic water bottles that we were going through daily, all of which quickly made their way into the trash. Making the swap is not a tough one, especially when you have a plan and the resources!

Plastic Swap

Figuring out all the single-use plastic you’re using in a day.

The first thing you need to do is either make a mental note or physically write down all the plastic products that you use in your home on a daily basis. For us, it was straws and water bottles. Once I had my list of the plastic items that I wanted to switch out, I began to do a little research:

How can I swap out these plastic products for reusable ones?

Finding out how to make the swap.

A little research will go a long way. I found all sorts of different products for switching out my plastic straws: from bamboo to aluminum reusable straws. Now for those water bottles. I know my family drinks a lot of water, and most of it is when we are on the go. A reusable storage bottle that could give me the same quality of water from those water bottles was a must for this plastic swap.

The Brita Filtering Bottle: simple swap for a sustainable future.

My main question when trying to figure out how to replace our plastic water bottle use was how would I get the same cleaner, great-tasting water in a reusable water bottle? The Brita Filtering Bottle is the answer to this plastic water bottle swap! It has a filter in the straw for great-tasting water and hassle-free hydration anywhere, without the waste. The Brita Filtering Bottle’s stainless steel design features double wall insulation to keep water cold for up to 24 hours. This is a win for all of us always on the go! I can fill my kids’ Brita Filtering Bottle right before we head out to a ballgame or swim meet and the water is still cool while we are away from the house. I even love to bring mine to the gym: cold, cleaner water when it is needed most.

My older kids even love to fill their very own bottles. They know they are doing their part in helping keep this planet free of all that preventable waste.

Making that simple swap away from plastic.

As you can see, it is not difficult to make the swap away from plastic, especially when you have a plan and great products like the Brita Filtering Bottle to make it easier. Still unsure about how much difference you could make just by swapping out your plastic water bottles for a reusable one? If you are a fact person, then this one is for you. Did you know that you will replace 1,800 single-use plastic water bottles a year just by choosing to use your Brita Filtering Bottle instead of bottled water? Yep, what a big difference that can be made with a simple swap away from plastic. Here’s to reducing single-use plastic and instilling the same behavior in our children!

A good water bottle makes all the difference! I’d be lost (and dehydrated lol) without my 32 oz bottle! I carry it with me EVERYWHERE.
