– 1 baked 9-inch pie shell – ~4 cups (quart) fresh strawberries: 2 cups sliced, 2 cups smashed – 1 cup white sugar – 3 tablespoons cornstarch – 3/4 cup water

Ingredients:

Make pie crust if you are making your own.

STEP ONE

Mash 2 cups of strawberries and combine them with the sugar in a medium saucepan.

STEP TWO

Place saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring frequently.

STEP THREE

In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water. Gradually stir cornstarch mixture into boiling strawberry mixture.

STEP FOUR

Reduce heat and simmer until thick, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

STEP FIVE

Arrange strawberry slices in the baked pie shell.
