planning a Memorial Day Weekend party with Hudsonest

Memorial Day Weekend Lunch Celebration

May 27, 2021 · In: Lifestyle, Momlife

Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and we are making all the plans for a Memorial Day Weekend Lunch celebration.

Can you believe we are already celebrating Memorial Day? This year is truly going by so fast. With all the chaos that has been going on over here, from moving to a new home to the end of school, we are keeping things simple this year. How are we celebrating? We are celebrating with a Memorial Day Weekend lunch by the pool.

Include all things refreshing and light.

Since we are having our little celebration during lunch, it is a must to keep the menu light and refreshing. I can’t do a lot of heavy foods when the temperatures are scolding like they are here right now in Louisiana. How do you keep it light and refreshing? Fruits have got to be included! We opted with strawberries and blueberries because of the color scheme, but you can add whatever fruits you want.

You also don’t want to have anything too sweet. These kids plan to get a lot of energy out in the pool! Sugar cookies and even cute patriotic skewers with fruit and marshmallows are a perfect option. We also love to include sherbets and popsicles. There is also something about a key lime pie that makes for a refreshing and tart dessert.

BBQ chicken is up.

When you are outdoors, you have got to make time for a little BBQ! An easy option for a Memorial Day Weekend lunch is BBQ chicken tenders. They are easy for the kids to pick up and eat and are normally a win for all. We usually will do a few hamburgers and hot dogs too. Nothing wrong with a little bit of a mix.

Paper goods that are up for the task.

Lastly, is setting up the table. First off, we are doing all of this outdoors. There will not be many glass options for this reason. Well because of that and the fact that majority of the guests are little ones. You can still have things looking nice when glass isn’t the main serve ware. What about the paper products? Glad you asked.

Memorial Day Cookies

I am obsessing over these Hudsonest’s paper napkins. They are perfect for any occasion, especially for our Memorial Day Weekend lunch by the pool. They triple-ply paper napkins come in three different sizes. The designs are limited editions, with new designs coming out four times a year. So the range stays small and there’s always something new to look forward to. Luxurious color and design add pleasure whether reconnecting with friends and family, or just making the everyday a little nicer.

As you can see, they will hold for those little wet hands after a splash in the pool.

A spicy pasta recipe that is so good! Maddy DeVita A spicy pasta recipe that is so good! Maddy DeVita knew what she was doing with this Spicy Tomato Tagliatelle as did @seventhgeneration with their Clementine Zest & Lemongrass Dish Soap, 95% Biobased Formula. It helps tackle grease WITHOUT all the extra effort. Giving more time to delicious meals and family time and not extra when it comes to cleaning!

What you need:
1/2 pound egg tagliatelle
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more if you’re feeling bold)
4 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup finely grated parm, plus more for topping Kosher salt, as needed

What you do:
Bring a large pot of well-salted water to a boil (don’t be shy - this is your pasta’s only chance to season itself properly). Cook the tagliatelle until 1 or 2 minutes shy of al dente, following package instructions.
• While the pasta cooks, warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and let them gently sizzle until fragrant and beginning to brown, about 3 minutes.
Remember, as Nonna would say, “DON’T let the garlic burn!”
• Add the tomato paste to the skillet. Break it up into the oil and fry for about 2 minutes until it deepens in color and gets a little caramelized- this step is key for building the rich flavor of our sauce, don’t skipl
• Add a ladle of pasta water to the skillet and whisk, scraping up any caramelized bits, until a smooth sauce forms.
When the pasta is 1 or 2 minutes shy of al dente, use tongs to transfer the pasta straight from the pot. Toss over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes, adding more pasta water as needed, until the pasta has finished cooking and the sauce has thickened up around the pasta.
• Turn off the heat, then stir in the parm until it melts into the sauce like it belongs there (because it does).
• Serve immediately. Try not to eat it straight from the pan... but no promises.

Enjoy 😘
