Making the Most of Family Holiday Traditions

November 28, 2018 · In: Momlife, Lifestyle

This post is sponsored by RMHC, Inc ® but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Can you believe that the holiday season is here? Thoughts of putting up the Christmas tree and hanging all those ornaments has been on my mind for a few months now. I can’t help but be excited about this time of year, especially due to all the special family time that is spent. Keeping holiday family traditions is not only fun, but it is a way to make unforgettable memories while spending time with those you love. Here are a few of our favorite family holiday traditions!

Making cookies.

Who doesn’t love a good cookie? We actually have even more fun making the cookies than we do eating them. You can make this super easy by picking up a roll of sugar cookie dough from your local store or take it a step further and prep your own cookie dough from scratch. To make things easier for us, we picked up a roll of sugar cookie dough and rolled it out on a lightly floured surface. My kids could not wait to use their cookie cutters!

I want to make the gingerbread man!

We love to talk about all things holiday-related as we wait for the cookies to bake. This is such a special time because you are engaging with your children in such a fun and memorable way. My kids talk about making holiday cookies every year!

Memorable Crafts

Arts and crafts are always on my mind during the holidays. I love a good craft project and so does my kids! There are so many ways you can add crafts to your family holiday traditions. It honestly doesn’t matter exactly what you choose to make: ornaments, refrigerator magnets/artwork, and even painted canvases. The point of making crafts as a family is the time you are spending with each other as you all use your imagination and creativity. It is so much fun to watch my kids come up with how they are going to make each and every craft.

Their own eyes light up with excitement as I explain to them my idea for my craft. Craft time is such a great way to spend time with family and bring smiles onto their faces.

A Christmas movie time.

And then there are all those Christmas movies. We absolutely love to watch movies as a family. I think this is one of my most favorite things to do as a family because it is a time where we can sit and just enjoy each other without all the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Cuddling together on the couch and just watching our favorite movie is such a great family holiday tradition. Our kids take turns picking out which movie we will watch together.

It is even better when you plan it right after making those sugar cookies. Christmas movie watching with a cup of hot chocolate and a plate of sugar cookie is one way to make some memorable memories as a family!

Donating to RMHC.

We all know that the holiday season is a time of giving. Buying presents each year for all of our family and friends. Many of us spend lots of time picking and choosing each gift to make sure it is perfect. With all of this being said, I also want to show my kids that the holiday season is for giving outside of family and friends. There are so many ways you can truly help others who are in need.

Ronald McDonald House Charities is one charity that my kids love to be a part of. They know that by donating to RMHC, they are helping families with children who are sick. My oldest is constantly wanting to find ways to help these children. She relates to them due to the fact that they are a child just like herself. By each donation to RMHC, you are giving these families courage, comfort, strength and most of all, the feeling of togetherness. You are showing them that you are here for them through this difficult time.

The holiday season is such a great time to bring togetherness. Donating to RMHC will remain apart of our holiday traditions, and I hope it does with your family as well!

The holiday season should be a time for bringing families closer, bringing smiles to faces, and making memories of togetherness. These family holiday traditions are perfect for doing just that!

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas!

5 Buttermilk Biscuit Cans , 5 biscuits (25 biscuits total)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 stick of unsalted butter
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 375. Prep a Bundt pan by spraying it with nonstick spray. Cut up biscuits in quarters and toss into a large bowl. In another bowl, mix up the sugars and cinnamon. Carefully dump the cinnamon and sugars mixture over the cut up biscuits and toss the biscuit quarters so that they are all coated. Next, evenly distribute the coated biscuits into the Bundt pan. Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl, then add vanilla extract to it and mix. Carefully pour the butter over the biscuits. Cook for 40 minute, until top is browned. Remove from oven and flip over onto a plate.
