At Home Science Experiements

At Home Science Activities and Experiments

March 16, 2020 · In: Lifestyle, Kid's Activities

If you didn’t know this about me, then let me let you in on a little secret. I LOVE all things related to science. Having been in medical research before kids followed by teaching middle and high school science, there is no wonder I try and find ways to incorporate all things science-related at home. Here are a few of my favorite science activities and experiments you can do at home with your kids!

At home science is fun!

You don’t have to love science or truly understand it to be able to do these activities. They are all self explanatory and easy for kids over the age of 3. Hopefully you have majority of the items needed for these activities considering the social distancing thing will make it difficult to go out and grab them. Here’s to finding ways to educationally engage our kids while they are at home!

Volcanoes are always fun!

What kid doesn’t love to watch things ooze and ‘explode’? Creating volcanoes at home are so much fun and easy to do!

Slime is always a win.

My kids are obsessed with slime…still. I have to make sure they only play with it in the kitchen or outside because it literally ends up EVERYWHERE. Here is a fun 2 for 1 slime recipe post. Remember, you can go for a different color if your kid isn’t into the ‘snotty’ look like my son, lol!

Bathtub fun with an educational spin!

My kids love to play in the bathtub, like all the time. I love this activity because it brings more to the bath time fun than just bubbles and bath toys!

Are your kids obsessed with all things related to outer space? My oldest started her obsession when she was only 3 years old. She insisted the moon was her best friend! Here are 3 outer space activities that are perfect for even those young children.

A messy way of having fun!

This is one activity that you want to contain, either outside or at the kitchen table. Although it may get a little messy, it is such a fun way to teach chemical reactions. Lots of oozing and amazement to be had with this elephant toothpaste experiment!

Did someone say Dubai Chocolate Brownies? Yes inde Did someone say Dubai Chocolate Brownies? Yes indeed! These are not only crave worthy and simple, they beat that price! One of the key ingredients: @kelloggsus Frosted Mini Wheats.

1 box of brownie mix
1 - 1 1/2 cups Frosted Mini Wheats
3 tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 cup Tahini
8oz jar Pistachio Cream / Butter
1 - 11oz bag of semisweet or milk chocolate morsels
1 tbsp coconut oil

Bake brownie mix according to box, making sure to line pan with parchment paper. Melt 3 tbsp butter in a saucepan and add the Frosted Mini Wheats. Stir and crush up Frosted Mini Wheats with spoon. Cook on low-medium for 2-3 minutes and remove from heat.

Add the tahini and pistachio cream to the Frosted Mini Wheats mixture. Once brownies have completely cooled, add the Frosted Mini Wheats mixture to the top of the brownies, reserving a little in a ziploc bag for decorative topping later.

Melt the chocolate morsels and coconut oil in increments, making sure to stir to prevent burning. Once completely melted, pour on top of the Frosted Mini Wheats/Pistachio mixture. Then add the decorative touch with the left over mixture before placing it in the fridge to set. It will take about an hour to fully set!
