After receiving the ZURU MAX Build More blocks and Max Figures for an initiative they were doing (more about this in a bit), I wanted to find all the ways we could add even more fun with fun blocks. So of course I went back to creating something with those cardboard boxes. It is too easy not too! Here is how we created our very own city with cardboard boxes.
A cardboard box and building blocks.
As I mentioned earlier, ZURU asked me to be apart of an initiative they were doing. This initiative was to send ZURU MAX Build More blocks to my family as well as a family who has been truly effected by covid-19, such as a parent who is considered an essential worker. After receiving many nominations, only one family could be chosen. This was pretty hard because so many were deserving!
The family selected was a family of 5, and this includes a newborn! The father is an ICU nurse and is having to live at his sister’s house due to the risk of him bringing covid-19 home. He isn’t even able to be home during this special time of having a newborn! This family is more than deserving of these ZURU MAX Build More blocks, don’t you think?
what about that cardboard Box building?
Now that you know about the background on how we got our ZURU blocks, lets talk about that cardboard box building. You will cut small windows in the bottom of the cardboard box. These don’t have to be perfect by any means. I used the sharp pointy end of a pair of scissors to carve out the windows. If you feel comfortable with a box cutter, you could use that to cut out the windows and garage doorway.
I then used the box top tabs to create the roadway into the building. Cut a garage doorway closer to the top of the building on one side and one closer to the ground on the other side of the building. The roadway that you create will go through both of these doorways. I had to trim the edges off of the box top tabs so that they could fit through the doorway openings.
To create the long roadway, just tape the box top tabs that you trimmed with packing tape. Insert the long roadway through the garage doorways and voila! You now have a cardboard box building! To create your city, just do the same thing to different sizes of cardboard boxes.
ZURU MAX Build More blocks for added fun.
I knew these ZURU MAX Build More blocks would be the perfect addition to our cardboard box building. The kids built vehicles to drive through the building as well as different accessories! I can’t forget to mention how much fun the MAX figurines were for bringing that added imagination to the city.
I am hoping you all are doing well through this quarantine. Find the time to take care of yourself through all of this. Believe me, it can seem pretty difficult some days! Little activities like this one above will hopefully keep your kids entertained to allow you a little bit of time to breathe and have a some quiet time.
