Finding the Time to Get Active This Summer

Finding the time to get active, both physically and mentally can be such a challenge. This is more than true when Summer approaches and you have kids out of school. Believe me, the struggle is more than real from this mom of three. So how exactly do I find that time to get active? Here is how I find the time during the chaotic Summer and why.

Getting active is good for the soul.

Getting active, not only physically but also mentally, is so good for the soul. I know I feel a thousand times better when I have found the time to do something physically active for
myself, whether it be a quick run around the neighborhood, walking the dog or even a bike ride. Allowing your body to be challenged in a way that is not normally done on a day to day basis while at work or folding the laundry is both great health-wise and gives you a chance to have one-on-one time with yourself. What’s the deal with this one-on-one time?

Get Active

Self-care at its finest.

If you haven’t heard it by know, self-care is a big deal. Finding the time to take care of yourself is one of the best ways to live a balanced life, both mentally and physically. It can be a real struggle to put time aside to just take care of you when life is so demanding, but you must make effort to do this. Plan at least 30 minutes a day to do something for yourself. This can be something physically challenging, like a trip to the gym, or even time set to the side to simply relax without having to take care of others.

What are my best ways to get active when it comes to self-care?

Alright, as I mentioned above, being a mom of three comes with some challenges when I am faced with the concept of self-care. Every day is spent trying to take care of little ones as well as the house we all occupy. How in the world am I to find time to take care of myself? After much trial and error, I have finally come up with a few tips that work for
me.

Schedule those grocery trips

Schedule those weekly grocery trips. You may have to make a quick random trip during the week but try and get 1 big trip done at the beginning of the week. What is even better is when you can plan a quick grocery pickup at Walmart.

The availability of great meals and snacks easily accessible is huge. I am constantly on the go during the Summer. I have a few go-to meal and snack options to make my life easier. With having easy meals and snacks plus scheduled grocery trips, I am giving myself more time to put aside for getting active. Once you make it a priority to have that time set aside just for getting active, you will see how easy it truly is to be accomplished. Plus, you have places like Walmart who are trying to make it easier for you by providing the right meal, snacks, and equipment. If you are looking for a way to get active, bike riding is one. Schwinn bikes are our go-to for bikes!

Getting active for that self-care.

As I mentioned above, getting active is one way to take care of yourself. You can do that either physically or mentally. So, how do I mentally get active during the summer? I must find time to unwind. If I am not unwinding during a workout routine, then it has to be while sitting down and relaxing. Engaging with myself minus all the stressors that motherhood entails.     Always looking for healthier choices, and I will check out the Kashi and the the protein bars. I don’t remember seeing that brand, at 20g protein those sound good – hopefully sugar is low????. The Michelob Lime – I am getting for sure to try;-)

    Planning is so important. If I make a list of meals before heading to the school, I tend to purchase less and actually make those meals. We also “schedule” active time–walks, trips to the park, etc. Sounds crazy, but it works for us.

Beef Tallow.. that’s all 👌🏼 Seriously thou Beef Tallow.. that’s all 👌🏼 Seriously though, @kettleandfire ‘s Grass Fed and Grass Finished Beef Tallow is the perfect replacement when you are cooking at a high temp and are about to grab that butter or other oils. High quality and taste brought right to your kitchen. Paired this beef tallow with some roasted veggies as well as searing off a steak.
 
Roasted Veggies w/ Beef Tallow:

4-6 Fingerling potatoes , cut in half
2 bunches of carrots, peeled and cut into big pieces
1 container of brussel sprouts, cut in half 
2 tablespoons Kettle and Fire Beef Tallow
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3/4 of the Kettle & Fire Beef Broth
Thyme
Salt & Pepper to taste 

 In a large pan, melt the beef tallow at medium - high heat; add the veggies and stir; cook for about 5 minutes and add the garlic, salt and pepper; stir and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until garlic is light brown; add beef broth and bring to a boil; once at a boil, cover and allow to simmer for an additional 5-8 minutes - until veggies are tender!

All you need:

Pretzels (3 per snack)
Pretzel Stick (1 per snack)
Rolos (1 per snack)
Green M&M’s (1 per snack)

Preheat oven to 350. Assemble your clovers, then place one Rolo where all 4 pretzel pieces touch. Bake for 3-5 minutes, enough time to soften Rolo. Remove from heat and press 1 M&M in the center of the Rolo, making sure all pretzel pieces are still touching and Rolo is helping them stick together. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, enough time for the chocolate to harden!

This weekend caught me off guard with how I was go This weekend caught me off guard with how I was going to feel when I left. Headed to Houston not sure what to expect with the new NCA venue, but also the fact Chloe had sprained her foot earlier that week. As a mom, you second guess all the things… is it bad I let her do this? Am I wrong for telling her she needs to compete? Let me tell you, the moment she walked onto that mat.. I knew. It wasn’t about me, it was about her. This year has been a learning year. Learning a whole new team and learning a whole new position. We have had our emotional ups and downs, but this weekend sealed the deal.

Day 1 didn’t go our teams way- left us in last place. Tough when you know what they can do. Day 2 was their day… hit 0 with a 4 point increase. Moving from last place to 4th with only a 0.5 difference from being in that winner’s circle. When Chloe landed that last pose at the end of day 2, all I could do was cry. They came back and did their thing. Seeing Chloe out there, killing it and loving it is what it’s about. Don’t get me wrong, a cool jacket is something I know she wanted. But… she knows she went into beast mode this weekend, pushing through the issues with her foot, and did the darn thing. I couldn’t be more proud of her and this team!
