Finding the Time to Get Active This Summer

Finding the Time to Get Active This Summer

June 6, 2019 · In: Momlife, Lifestyle

This post was sponsored Optimum Nutrition as part of Influencer Activation and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Finding the time to get active, both physically and mentally can be such a challenge. This is more than true when Summer approaches and you have kids out of school. Believe me, the struggle is more than real from this mom of three. So how exactly do I find that time to get active? Here is how I find the time during the chaotic Summer and why.

Getting active is good for the soul.

Getting active, not only physically but also mentally, is so good for the soul. I know I feel a thousand times better when I have found the time to do something physically active for
myself, whether it be a quick run around the neighborhood, walking the dog or even a bike ride. Allowing your body to be challenged in a way that is not normally done on a day to day basis while at work or folding the laundry is both great health-wise and gives you a chance to have one-on-one time with yourself. What’s the deal with this one-on-one time?

Get Active

Self-care at its finest.

If you haven’t heard it by know, self-care is a big deal. Finding the time to take care of yourself is one of the best ways to live a balanced life, both mentally and physically. It can be a real struggle to put time aside to just take care of you when life is so demanding, but you must make effort to do this. Plan at least 30 minutes a day to do something for yourself. This can be something physically challenging, like a trip to the gym, or even time set to the side to simply relax without having to take care of others.

What are my best ways to get active when it comes to self-care?

Alright, as I mentioned above, being a mom of three comes with some challenges when I am faced with the concept of self-care. Every day is spent trying to take care of little ones as well as the house we all occupy. How in the world am I to find time to take care of myself? After much trial and error, I have finally come up with a few tips that work for
me.

Schedule those grocery trips

Schedule those weekly grocery trips. You may have to make a quick random trip during the week but try and get 1 big trip done at the beginning of the week. What is even better is when you can plan a quick grocery pickup at Walmart.

The Get Out Get Active Sweepstakes!

Kashi Go

Optimum Nutrition

Having great easy meals and snacks.

The availability of great meals and snacks easily accessible is huge. I am constantly on the go during the Summer. I have a few go-to meal and snack options to make my life easier. Kashi GO Cereal Peanut Butter Crunch is one of those that I must have available for not only breakfast, but for any type of on the go snack. It’s powerful, plant-based nutrition comes with some many great benefits with it being packed with 10 grams of protein in every serving, and it’s great-tasting, crunchy clusters are bursting with peanut butter goodness! Why would I not have this on my go-to list?

Get Active

Optimum Nutrition is another great option for those with a chaotic schedule but want to get in that protein without having to truly stop. These are perfect for when I am hustling children to swim practice or to a Summer camp. They fit perfectly in my purse, and I can eat it on the go! Two of their products that I can vouch for being ultimately delicious are the Salted Toffee Pretzel Protein Crisps and Chocolate Donut Cake Bites. Each individual pack contains 20g of protein, which gives me the energy as well as keeps me satisfied while I am hustling through the day.

Optimum Nutrition

The Salted Toffee Pretzel Protein Crisps are high protein bars that have a delicious, crispy texture, and the Chocolate Donut Cake Bites are deliciously whipped protein snacks that are coated with yogurt or chocolate flavored frosting. Yep, so good!

Optimum Nutrition

What makes these meal and snack options even more easily accessible is all thanks to Walmart. I can plan a quick stop by the store or grab them through the Walmart grocery pickup.

Put aside at least 30 minutes.

With having easy meals and snacks plus scheduled grocery trips, I am giving myself more time to put aside for getting active. Once you make it a priority to have that time set aside just for getting active, you will see how easy it truly is to be accomplished. Plus, you have places like Walmart who are trying to make it easier for you by providing the right meal, snacks, and equipment. If you are looking for a way to get active, bike riding is one. Schwinn bikes are our go-to for bikes!

Scwinn Bike

The Schwinn Sidewinder is a great option with its light and strong alloy rims that add durability without weighing you down during your ride. The bike’s steel mountain-style frame and front suspension fork for a durable ride, and it has a tool-free adjustable seat post for easy height adjustments on the go. Now this is a bike to have for getting active while on the go!

Scwinn Bike

Getting active for that self-care.

As I mentioned above, getting active is one way to take care of yourself. You can do that either physically or mentally. So, how do I mentally get active during the summer? I must find time to unwind. If I am not unwinding during a workout routine, then it has to be while sitting down and relaxing. Engaging with myself minus all the stressors that motherhood entails. One of the best ways to relax is while sitting outdoors with my Michelob ULTRA. Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold and Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus are two of my favorites. Both have under 95 calories and offer such a refreshing taste. The Michelob ULTRA Lime Cactus has a refreshing lime taste where the Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold is a light lager with a superior golden taste. No better way to unwind after a
hectic Summer day! Remember to drink responsibly.

Planning is so important. If I make a list of meals before heading to the school, I tend to purchase less and actually make those meals. We also “schedule” active time–walks, trips to the park, etc. Sounds crazy, but it works for us.

What do you do with these 3 things : @appalachian_ What do you do with these 3 things : @appalachian_cast_iron , LSU Football, and 1st tailgate of the season? You make a great recipe perfect for tailgating of course! This Handmade Carbon Steel Skillet from Appalachian Cast Iron is not only much easier to cook with compared to cast iron, each skillet is truly unique! The hammered texture is unique for each skillet, but the handle is even hand made and practical. With the precision grind of the cook surface, there is enough “tooth” for the seasoning to adhere - no worries of that seasoning flaking off like some carbon steel skillets. Also, you can personalize the bottom of the skillet!

Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
-1/2 white onion, diced
-1 red bell pepper, sliced
-1 1/2 cups sliced bella mushrooms
-1 tbsp minced garlic
-1 lb shaved beef steak
-~2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-5-6 slices of provolone
-salt/ pepper to taste
-Hawaiian Rolls

Add onion, red bell pepper, garlic to hot skillet and cook until tender, add mushrooms, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and salt/pepper and cook down until mushrooms darken and are more tender. Add water as needed; remove from skillet and add seasoned shave beef to a hot pan. Add 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and cook until meat is no longer pink. Add veggie mix back to pan and top with provolone. Allow to cook until cheese is melted. Serve on sliced Hawaiian Rolls!
