Ever feel like you aren’t the perfect one for the part? You look around the room and everyone else seems to have it all together. Hair fixed just right, kids sitting quietly and smiling at all the other adults as they walk by. I turn to look at my own crew. My son’s ADHD medicine has started to wear off, my youngest is more than over the wait, and I glance down to notice that my unpolished toe nails are blantantly obvious in my open toe heels. Then I start focusing on all the things that surround those unpolished nails in a pair of open toe heels.

When you feel unprepared.
“I am not prepared for this.”
I whisper to myself.
Growing up, I was always striving for perfection. I could blame a lot of it on my Type A personality, but I know now there is more to it than that. Through the attempt to be perfect and please all those around me, I found myself making choices that weren’t always the best. From year to year, I would doubt my own self worth. So many would never had known this because of the appearing large smile I would showcase as I was out and about.

From not feeling prepared to not feeling good enough. Never quite good enough for the part. The story of Saul of Taurus before he became the apostle Pauls always pops into my mind when I think of not being quit good enough. I remember watching a VHS cartoon movie on the story of Saul that my grandmother had mailed to my sisters and I. It is the one Bible story that I can recall from my childhood, other than the Christmas and Easter story.
Everyone’s road starts somewhere, and it isn’t always perfect.
You see, Saul was not a Godly man at the beginning. He was actually a great enemy. Saul was sent out to persecute the church. He sought to destroy all those who believed in the Lord. This all was until his encounter with the Lord on the Damascus Road, which left him blinded.
Saul regains his sight as well as the Holy Spirit and becomes the apostle Paul, sharing the word of the Lord to all the unbelievers.
“Then he said, “The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.”
If God can use a man like Saul to share the gospel of the Lord, than why can’t I? You see, your past or the current moment does not take you away from the Lord’s hand when you are truly seeking Him and believe in Him. I don’t have to be perfect to love the Lord and share with others the love that He has for all of us. He can use me, and YOU, just like He used Saul.
Unpolished nails in a pair of open toe heels have nothing when compared to what God has planned for you.
So what are you waiting for? Don’t let a few unpolished nails slow you down from sharing what the Lord has placed on your heart today. Those unpolished nails in a pair of open toe heels have nothing when compared to what God has planned for you!
“And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” -Romans 10:15
