1-Day New Orleans Itinerary During Christmas

1-Day New Orleans Itinerary During Christmas

December 15, 2020 · In: Travel

Special thanks to New Orleans & Company for helping with some of the reservations.

So much to do, but little time for New Orleans.

Sometimes we may be short on time when it comes to vacationing during the Christmas holidays. One thing that is possible though is a great 1 day trip in New Orleans. You can enjoy a lot of what New Orleans has to offer in 1 Day.

Here is how we spent our 1 day in New Orleans in December, a 1-Day New Orleans Itinerary!

Day 1:

Lodging that has everything you need. Location, food, drinks, and comfort.

I know all about finding that perfect place for lodging when on vacation, especially in New Orleans. I love to have the ability to walk to all my destinations. So booking a hotel with a great location is a must. This is where Loews New Orleans comes into play. The first time I stayed at the Loews New Orleans was 12 years ago.

New Orleans
5:30p: Arrival at Loews New Orleans and pre-dinner at Bar Peters.

Loews continues to amaze me with their accommodations and comfort. It is located on Poydras and in walking distance to a lot of the attractions. More to come about this amazing #welcomeyoulikefamily hotel! Once you get checked into Loews, you can head down to the Bar Peters on the first floor of Loews for fabulous drinks and food. The Bar Peters is open from 3p-11p. We arrived around 5:30 for a pre-dinner stop.

1-Day New Orleans Itinerary and the food: Dinner.

When you are in New Orleans, you must take part in enjoying the food and drinks. I mean the local food! There are so many great small restaurants as well as larger ones that will serve up a delicious New Orleans’ cuisine. With only 1 Day, we opted to take full advantage of the special le reveillon menu that some of the local restaurants were hosting. Le reveillon is a long dinner held in the evenings during the Christmas holidays. It is still observed in New Orleans due to the city’s strong French-Creole heritage.

7:30p The Grill Room.

By a long dinner, it means a 4 course menu. We had reservations for 7:30p at The Grill Room of Windsor Hotel. It is only 1 block away from Loews. You will find beautiful Christmas decorations in the lobby before riding the elevator to the 2nd Floor where The Grill Room is located.

9:30p City Park Celebration in the Oaks.

Once we finished up with dinner, I had my dessert wrapped up to go. Then we walked back to Loews to get our car from valet. Then we headed to City Park for Celebration in the Oaks. I had the chance to go last year as well, and I absolutely love the light show at Celebration in the Oaks. It is so much fun to see all the different characters and designs created throughout the park. This year, they offered a drive thru experience as a way to keep safe during these current times.

You must pre-buy your tickets to ensure you are able to attend! I can’t forget to mention, Santa may be present.

10:30p Back to Loews.

Once we finished up at Celebration in the Oaks, we headed back to Loews. I quickly got comfortable and enjoyed my cheesecake from The Grill Room.

New Orleans and the food: Breakfast.

Once we got up the next morning, we were ready to walk the streets of New Orleans. First on the list was breakfast. So many great places to stop and eat breakfast. A lot of you probably already know about Cafe du Monde. That is a place you have to go to at least once when visiting New Orleans. It is like a right of passage. Well, I decided to try out a new place during this visit.

9:45a Cafe Fleur-de-lis.

We stopped by Cafe Fleur-de-lis. I had the farmer’s omelet, and it didn’t disappoint. Neither did the biscuits and gravy.

Time to enjoy the New Orleans Scenery.

Once we finished breakfast, it was time to walk around New Orleans. There are lots of unique shops along the streets, especially in the French Quarter. We made a point to stop by one of favorite shops, Central Grocery.

11a Central Grocery.

Central Grocery is an old-fashioned grocery store founded in 1906 by a Sicilian immigrant who is famous for creating the muffuletta. Hence why Central Grocery is deemed the home of the original muffuletta. Not a trip goes by to New Orleans without stopping by Central Grocery to get a muffuletta to go as well as some other imported dry pasta to bring back home.

Central Grocery
More local small shops shopping.

I love to stop by the local New Orleans shops while we are walking around. We made a point to stop by NOLA Kids again this year. Lots of great Christmas items were quickly bought.

1:00p Roosevelt Hotel.

The Roosevelt Hotel is known for its beautiful Christmas lights and decor that light up the lobby area. Many come just to see the lights. Once we arrived to the Roosevelt Hotel, we stopped by the Teddy Cafe to have cappuccinos before walking through the lobby to check out all the lights.

We walked back to the hotel and gathered our things to head back home. If we were to stay a little bit longer, we would have headed back down to Bar Peters for a small meal before heading back home!

So much more to see, do and eat!

There is so much more to New Orleans that what we did in our 1-Day New Orleans Itinerary. New Orleans is interesting and fascinating, no matter how many times I visit! Our trip was all done with safety and masks in check! Stay tuned for more New Orleans’ itinerary’s.

What do you do with these 3 things : @appalachian_ What do you do with these 3 things : @appalachian_cast_iron , LSU Football, and 1st tailgate of the season? You make a great recipe perfect for tailgating of course! This Handmade Carbon Steel Skillet from Appalachian Cast Iron is not only much easier to cook with compared to cast iron, each skillet is truly unique! The hammered texture is unique for each skillet, but the handle is even hand made and practical. With the precision grind of the cook surface, there is enough β€œtooth” for the seasoning to adhere - no worries of that seasoning flaking off like some carbon steel skillets. Also, you can personalize the bottom of the skillet!
