Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I am already snatching up all the cute little Valentine’s Day goodies I can find. I absolutely love this day, especially when it comes to my kids.
Preparing Kids’ Valentine’s Day Cards
The most fun part of Valentine’s Day for me is all the prep work that goes behind those card exchanges. I used to buy the ready-to-go card sets until I realized how easy it was to make our own. This gives the kids a chance to personalize them: the way they look, their own design and exactly what they will say.
One of our ideas for this year was to make a cut out bunny that will not only look like it was holding a tiny heart, but also will be holding candy. We got the idea when we saw these cute little hearts in Target: only $1 for a pack of 25 #targetwin
These cards can be completely made by your child, depending on their fine motor skills. My son, who is 5, had a little difficulty cutting the bunny out all by himself. So, I cut his bunny out and let him decorate and assemble it on his own. My 6 year old was able to do it all by herself.
To make this cute little card, you can either free-hand a bunny (or any other character) out of card stock/construction paper. I have attached the bunny we used for ours to make your life even easier! Just print it out and have them cut it out. The heavier the paper the better at holding whatever Valentine’s Day treats they may be handing out. The arms are folded inward and glued.
Here is where your child can get creative. You can glue the little hearts or even place a felt sticker heart over the hands! Color and write whatever message on the bunny. Then tape the candy (make sure it will fit without tearing the arms) underneath the hands. Voila! A cute and personal Valentine’s Day card 🙂
Items Needed:
Paper (construction paper, typing paper or card stock: the heavier the better for holding the candy)
Outlined character for cutting out (either free-hand drawn or print out this Bunny we used!)
Scissors
Glue
Any sort of heart shaped cut out or sticker
Crayons/Markers
Candy
