Is it even fall if you don’t include pumpkins?
I know, I know. Some of y’all are the biggest pumpkin fans when it comes to actually eating pumpkins. Let me introduce y’all to this spooky pumpkin monkey bread. It brings a hint of pumpkin without being overwhelming or bringing the pumpkin texture which I know turns many of y’all away.
I have most recently started using cinnamon rolls instead of junior biscuits for my monkey bread recipe. The added cinnamon/sugar filling in the cinnamon rolls is the perfect addition to any and all monkey bread recipes. When I saw these pumpkin cinnamon rolls in the store I knew I had to find a creative way to use them. The pumpkin flavor is very subtle and even more so when you combine it with more cinnamon and sugar plus butter. Did I forget the halloween inspired sprinkles? Yep!
Using all the sprinkles to make things feel like Halloween.
Sprinkles add a whole new level to baked goods. The more fun and unique the sprinkles, the better. In the case with this spooky pumpkin monkey bread, we used sprinkles for both the baking process and for decorating. Baking process?
Well, I didn’t want to use too much black food coloring to create a darker looking monkey bread. I was scared that would offset the flavor too much. With the sprinkles, you can change up the color without changing up the flavor too much. The melted butter as well as the baking process melts the sprinkles so that they become a darker color. The normally tan brown cinnamon and sugar topping is now a more black topping. Perfect for the spooky vibe of this cake.
Then we took the icing that came with the canned pumpkin cinnamon rolls and added a little bit of green food coloring. Hello Halloween! My youngest was like “That looks scary and gross!” Exactly what I was going for 😉 Lastly add the Halloween sprinkles and you have a spooky pumpkin monkey bread that is ready to get the spooky season underway!
