DIY Valentine’s Day Felt Heart Holders

January 21, 2019 · In: Kid's Activities, Lifestyle

There is no better day than today to start thinking about Valentine’s Day. Martin Luther King Jr. demonstrated true love when he preached and took a stand for the need for all peoples to be united. One of his quotes is my favorite:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. -Martin Luther King Jr.

With this being said, I want to strive to represent what love means to my children in such a world where hatred exists. Valentine’s Day is at least one day of the year where all things surround the idea of love (besides Good Friday and Easter Sunday). I love to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my kids! It is seriously one of my most favorite holidays besides Christmas or Easter. I wanted to come up with a fun craft that would be great for not only the kids to give but something that parents can give to their kids.

DIY Valentine’s Day Heart Holders.

If you fix your kid’s school lunch, then you know how much they love getting that special surprise note or treat in their lunchbox. Well I took that concept and ran with it 😉 These DIY felt heart holders are the perfect lunchbox addition! They will not get messed up from any leaking or coldness in the lunchbox. What you put in them is completely up to you. I went with homemade Valentine’s Day cookies. Let’s face it, you can never go wrong with a good cookie!

These heart holders are so easy to assemble and honestly a lot of fun.

Items needed:

2 sheets of Felt: preferable ones that are already in heart shapes and with the cut out holes for lacing (Found mine at Target!)

Twine or any type of yarn

Cookies, treats, trinkets: whatever you want to fill your hearts with

How to assemble.

As I mentioned earlier, these heart holders are very easy to assemble. All you need to do is place 2 felt hearts back to back. Beginning at the very tip of the heart, tie a knot with the twine. Then lace up one side until you get to the part of the heart where it is curving. Stop here and tie a knot. Repeat the same thing with the other side of the heart, starting by tying a knot at the very tip of the heart next to the other knot.

And that is it!

All is left is filling those hearts…with love.

These heart holders are super easy! Your kids can even get involved and make them for classmates and teachers. Once you have them assembled, fill those hearts with whatever you want to share.

Remember, this is a great time to engage with your children and share with them the meaning of love. By sharing with them how we are to love one another, you are in turn filling their own little hearts with love.

Lots of love,

“Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.”
-Mark 8:34

Charlie Kirk understood the calling to take up the cross and follow the Lord. My heart hurts for his sweet family, even knowing that he is now in the presence of our Almighty God. Praying for Charlie Kirk’s family and the days, years to come and praying for this world. So much hatred that it’s sickening.
